lahore FOOD

lahore is the capital of Punjab, the most populated province of Pakistan, and is known as one of the ancient cities in South Asia with its rich historical and cultural heritage.
The early history of the city is cloaked in obscurity and it is pretty difficult to establish exact date of its foundation. It was a town of not much importance in the first and second century of Christian era and was ruled by Rajput princes. In the eighth and ninth century, it became the capital of a powerful Brahman family, who, in the tenth century, were invaded by Sabuktagin and his son Mahmud Ghaznivide. For the next eight centuries,Lahore was ruled by different Muslim dynasties and served as the capital of Ghaznivides, Ghorians, and Mughals from time to time. At the onset of the 19th century, the Sikhs ascended to the throne of Punjab and Lahore was made the seat of government. Shortly after the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1839, the britishdefeated the Sikhs and took over their domains. It served as the capital of the undivided province of Punjab until 1947 under the Britishrule and after independence, it became the capital of the province of Punjab in Pakistan.
In the historic city of Lahore, on the road that led southwards to Multan, the Chauburji gateway remains of an extensive garden known to have existed in Mughal times. The establishment of this garden is attributed to Mughal Princess Zeb-un-Nissa, 1646 A.D., which appears in one of the inscriptions on the gateway. The gateway consists of four towers (chau: four, burji: tower) and contains much of the brilliant tile work with which the entire entrance was once covered.
During a severe earthquake in 1843, the north-western minaret collapsed and cracks appeared in the central arch. This has however been restored as much as was reasonably possible and the gateway now looks quite as it might have been during the time of its Mughal patroness. The restoration was carried out by the Department of Archeology in the late in 1960’s.

HIRAN MINAR

(‘Deer Tower’), built by Emperor Jahangir as a monument to Mansraj his favourite pet deer. A remarkable structure with many features, some being added after Jahangir’s death by his son and successor the Emperor Shah Jehan.
Between taking these photographs, Umar had a turn at the controls… with the inevitable beginner’s white-knuckled grip and frozen dropped-jaw! He didn’t do too badly for a first-timer though, after the initial bobbing and weaving about the sky while I put my seat all the way back to take this picture.
